If you can’t explain it with Lego then you’re making it too complicated

I’m preparing a knowledge session on cloud networking for a devops team. I have the advantage of having done network designs for “real” data centers. Virtual networks should be the same, but that is ignoring how anything made be complex.
You can create many more options in software. The question should arise whether that is really necessary. In German, they say, “the master shows themselves in simplicity.”

I will be using that motto in this session: limit yourself to what you really need, don’t make it too complicated. Your colleague should also be able to understand if there’s a sudden malfunction!

Of course, for my example, I will need Duplo blocks in odd sizes and with specific colors, so I just print them. That’ll also come in handy the next time I want to make this point.
